Mokbul Hossain, father of July uprising martyr Abu Sayeed, has said he wants to see Tarique Rahman as the prime minister of Bangladesh.

Speaking to journalists on January 30, Mokbul Hossain said justice would be established in the country under Tarique Rahman’s leadership and a developed and discrimination-free Bangladesh would be built as recognition of the martyrs’ sacrifices.

On the day, BNP chairman Tarique Rahman visited Pirganj and paid tribute at the grave of Abu Sayeed and met his family. He recalled the sacrifice of the martyr and urged people to remain united.

As part of election campaigning, Tarique Rahman addressed a divisional rally at Collectorate Eidgah ground in Rangpur city. The venue was packed with supporters who marched with national and party flags and chanted slogans for the Sheaf of Paddy symbol. Large screens were set up at different points of the rally venue to broadcast his speech.

Rangpur Metropolitan Police said uniformed and plainclothes police were deployed at the rally venue, roads and entry points of the city. Intelligence surveillance was also intensified across the city.
