Abul Quasem Fazlul Haque, an essayist and researcher, has been appointed as the president of Bangla Academy for the next three years. A notification regarding this appointment has recently been issued by the Ministry of Culture. The notification states that according to the Bangla Academy Act, renowned intellectual and distinguished researcher Abul Quasem Fazlul Haque is appointed as the president of Bangla Academy for three years, starting from the date of assuming office, subject to certain conditions. It is also mentioned that the responsibilities of the president and other activities will be governed by the "Bangla Academy Act, 2013." Previously, the position was held by fiction writer Selina Hossain, who submitted her resignation on October 17.

আগামী তিন বছরের জন্য বাংলা একাডেমির সভাপতির দায়িত্ব পেয়েছেন প্রাবন্ধিক ও গবেষক আবুল কাসেম ফজলুল হক। সংস্কৃতিবিষয়ক মন্ত্রণালয় থেকে সম্প্রতি এ-সংক্রান্ত প্রজ্ঞাপন জারি করা হয়েছে। প্রজ্ঞাপনে বলা হয়েছে, বাংলা একাডেমি আইন অনুযায়ী বুদ্ধিজীবী, প্রথিতযশা প্রাবন্ধিক ও বরেণ্য গবেষক আবুল কাসেম ফজলুল হককে কার্যভার গ্রহণের তারিখ থেকে তিন বছরের জন্য শর্ত সাপেক্ষে বাংলা একাডেমির সভাপতি হিসেবে নিয়োগ করা হলো। আর সভাপতির দায়িত্ব এবং অন্যান্য কার্যাবলি ‘বাংলা একাডেমি আইন, ২০১৩’ অনুযায়ী নিয়ন্ত্রিত হবে বলে শর্ত হিসেবে উল্লেখ করা হয়। এর আগে বাংলা একাডেমির সভাপতি ছিলেন কথাসাহিত্যিক সেলিনা হোসেন। ১৭ অক্টোবর তিনি পদত্যাগপত্র দেন।
