ACC seeks NBR records on Joy, Putul's organisations
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has asked the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to provide documents regarding donations and grants made to Shuchona Foundation, led by Saima Wazed Putul, and the Center for Research and Information (CRI), associated with Sajeeb Wazed Joy.
In a letter issued on Sunday (July 13), the ACC requested detailed records on the financial transactions of both organisations.
The commission is investigating allegations of financial mismanagement and corruption, including claims that Putul misappropriated corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds from various banks through her foundation. Additionally, Joy, a trustee of CRI, and other family members are accused of using public resources to advance political interests.
The ACC has instructed the NBR to provide the requested documents by Monday to ensure a fair investigation. A seven-member probe team, led by Deputy Director Monirul Islam, has been formed to investigate the allegations.
This follows earlier cases filed by the ACC, including allegations against Putul for raising Tk 3.3 billion for Shuchona Foundation through fraudulent means and irregularities in her appointment as WHO South-East Asia regional director. Additionally, both Putul and Joy are under investigation for alleged misconduct in the allocation of a plot in Purbachal.
