ACC seizes Tk2.5 crore from ex-DGFI chief Saiful's house
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has recovered Tk2.45 crore from the house of former director general of Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) Saiful Alam.
The money was recovered from his house in Dhaka's Cantonment area during an operation led by the ACC on 27 February.
The disclosure came on Sunday (2 March) in response to a question from media personnel during a press conference by the agency's Director General Md Akhtar Hossain in front of the ACC head office.
He said an investigation is underway against Saiful Alam.
Based on a tip-off, the Tk2.45 crore was recovered from his house, the ACC chief said.
Md Saiful Alam was arrested on 13 January 2025.
Earlier in September, the bank accounts of Saiful Alam, his wife, and children were frozen on orders of the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU).
Saiful Alam was sent on forced retirement in the same month.
The removal came under Section 289(A) of the Army Regulations, which pertains to removal for misconduct and inefficiency.
Saiful was commissioned into the army as a cadet of the 14th BMA Long Course from Bangladesh Military Academy. He had played the role of an area commander for the 11th Infantry Division of Bogura Cantonment.
Saiful was appointed as the DG of DGFI on24 February, 2020.
After the fall of the Awami League government, Md Saiful Alam was posted to the foreign ministry on 6 August.
