The Anti-Corruption Commission, ACC, has summoned Dhaka orth City Corporation administrator Mohammad Ejaz over serious allegations of irregularities, financial corruption and bribery.

According to the summons notice, Ejaz has been asked to appear at the ACC headquarters with his national identity card on January 29 to provide a statement.

A senior ACC official confirmed the matter.

The notice states that allegations against Mohammad Ejaz include irregularities and corruption related to the leasing of Mirpur-Gabtoli cattle markets, the e-rickshaw project, transfer of control of Borak Tower and Hotel Sheraton, shop allocations at Banani raw market, city corporation van services and pavement shop allocations, among other DNCC-related interests.

On November 27 last year, the ACC’s Daily and Current Complaints Cell informed, through a letter signed by director Ishita Rony, that a decision had been taken to investigate the allegations against the DNCC administrator.

On December 1, a two-member inquiry team was formed under assistant director Md Ashikur Rahman, with deputy assistant director Subimal Chakma as the other member.

In a letter regarding the inquiry, the ACC stated that preliminary consideration found serious allegations of abuse of power, financial irregularities, corruption and bribery against Mohammad Ejaz, prompting instructions to take necessary action.

Multiple allegations have emerged concerning approvals, leases, licence renewals and market management under DNCC, particularly due to Ejaz’s direct control over cattle market leasing.
