The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to launch an inquiry into allegations of illegal wealth and abnormal bank transactions worth Tk134 crore against journalist and television presenter Munni Saha and her husband Kabir Hossain Tapas.

ACC Director General (Prevention) Md Akhtar Hossain confirmed the development while talking to reporters on Thursday (January 2).

He said the inquiry has been ordered as there are allegations of bank transactions amounting to Tk134 crore, with a current balance of Tk14 crore, and acquisition of assets beyond known sources of income by Munni and her husband Kabir, who is the owner of advertising agency MS Promotional.

Back in October last year, the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) had asked banks to provide account details of Munni Saha.

In a letter, BFIU sought information on Munni's deposits, loans, credit cards, foreign trade, money exchange, lockers, and offshore banking.

Munni started her journalism career with Daily Ajker Kagoj in 1991. Afterwards, she worked with Daily Bhorer Kagoj as a staff reporter. She also worked as a special correspondent at Ekushey Television.

She joined ATN Bangla in 2003 and became the head of news of ATN News in 2010. She was the chief executive editor of ATN News from 2016 till her resignation in 2023.
