Accused in child rape case killed in mob beating in Gaibandha

A man was beaten to death in a mob attack for allegedly raping a six-year-old girl in Gobindaganj, Gaibandha. Additional police have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order.

The deceased was identified as Habil Mia (50). On Sunday (June 29) afternoon, Gobindaganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Bulbul Islam confirmed this information.

Earlier, a mob lynching took place in Palupara village of Katabari union in Gobindaganj upazila on Saturday night.

Police and local sources said that accused Habil Mia lured the child to his house on Friday afternoon and sexually assaulted her before fleeing. Later, the child was admitted to the Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex in a serious condition. At the same time, the victim's father filed a written complaint with Gobindaganj Police Station.

Meanwhile, the next day, Saturday night, villagers caught Habil in the area and gang-lynched him. Habil was seriously injured in this. Later, according to the locals, the police rescued him from the scene and took him to the hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead. However, locals believe that Habil died on the spot in the mob beating.

OC Bulbul Islam said that the accused person accused of rape was killed in the mob beating. The body has been sent to the morgue of Gaibandha Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
