Action ongoing against army officer accused of woman abuse: ISPR

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a press release on Friday (15 August) that disciplinary action is underway against a senior Bangladesh Army officer accused of abusing a woman.

The press release noted that an allegation of woman abuse involving a senior army officer has been circulating on social media. The complainant is the former wife of a former army officer, who had previously been convicted of a high-profile crime, dismissed from service, and is currently serving a prison sentence.

ISPR added that the Bangladesh Army was aware of the complaint even before it surfaced on social media and promptly launched a serious investigation. Taking into account the complainant’s dignity and the sensitive nature of the matter, the army has been carrying out the necessary actions under military law with due caution.

The release further stated that the accused senior officer has already been relieved of his duties, and a high-level investigation board has been established to determine the facts of the case. Disciplinary action against the officer is currently underway.
