Active Jubo League member detained at Dhanmondi 32
Police detained an alleged active member of the banned Jubo League from the Dhanmondi 32 area in Dhaka on Saturday morning (August 15) as security was tightened around the site ahead of August 15.
The detainee was identified as Arnob Das, 37, a resident of Tangail. Dhanmondi police took him into custody while he was present in the area and later took him to the police station for questioning.
Dhanmondi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Imdadul Islam Tayyab confirmed the detention, saying preliminary questioning indicated that Das was affiliated with the Jubo League.
Security around Dhanmondi 32 has been tightened since Friday night, with additional police deployed and an armoured vehicle kept ready to respond to any potential disturbance. Police have also increased surveillance in and around the area.
A heavy presence of law enforcement personnel was visible in Dhanmondi 32 on Saturday morning, alongside journalists and onlookers. Police were closely monitoring the area around the remains of the residence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
August 15 marks the anniversary of the 1975 assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most members of his family. Eighteen family members, including his youngest son Sheikh Russel, were killed in the attack.
Security measures have been heightened this year amid restrictions on the activities of the Awami League and its affiliated organisations following the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024. Authorities have stepped up security in key areas of Dhaka after the party and its affiliated groups announced programmes around August 15.
