Active monsoon across country, rain forecast till Aug 9
Due to the active monsoon across the country, light to moderate rain and thundershowers with gusty winds are likely in most areas till August 9. At the same time, moderately heavy to heavy rainfall may occur at various places, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
The Met Office's 120-hour forecast on Wednesday, August 5, said this rainfall trend may continue for a few days as the monsoon is moderate over the North Bay. However, the extended five-day forecast indicates that rainfall intensity may gradually decrease.
The forecast said the axis of the monsoon trough extends through Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and central Bangladesh to Assam. An extension of it extends to the North Bay. The monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate over the North Bay.
The Met Office said light to moderate rain or thundershowers with gusty winds may occur at most places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions in the 24 hours from 6pm today. At the same time, moderately heavy to heavy rainfall may occur at some places. Day temperatures may remain nearly unchanged while night temperatures may drop slightly.
From 6pm on Thursday (August 6), light to moderate rain or thundershowers with gusty winds may occur at most places in Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, and at many places in Rangpur and Mymensingh divisions. At the same time, moderately heavy to heavy rainfall may occur at some places. Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged.
From 6pm on Friday (August 7), light to moderate rain or thundershowers with gusty winds may occur at many places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions. Moderately heavy rainfall may occur at some places. Day and night temperatures may rise slightly.
From 6pm on Saturday (August 8), light to moderate rain or thundershowers with gusty winds may occur at most places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka and Sylhet divisions, and at many places in Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions. At the same time, moderately heavy to heavy rainfall may occur at some places. Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged.
From 6pm on Sunday (August 9), light to moderate rain or thundershowers with gusty winds may occur at many places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, and at some places in Khulna and Barishal divisions. At the same time, moderately heavy rainfall may occur at some places. Day and night temperatures may rise slightly.
The Met Office's extended five-day forecast said rainfall intensity may decrease after this period.
