Actor Zaher Alvi sent to jail over wife's suicide

A court has ordered television actor Zaher Alvi to be sent to jail in a case filed over allegedly abetting his wife's suicide.

He surrendered before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin and applied for bail on Thursday (June 18). After the hearing, the court rejected his bail application and ordered his sending to jail.

The case alleges that actor Zaher Alvi (real name Md. Niamat Ullah Bhuiyan) is involved in abetting his wife's suicide.

However, the lawyers for the accused claim that he has no involvement in the incident. According to their statement, it is a harassment case filed due to personal dispute and revenge surrounding a love marriage.

It is also claimed that there is no specific allegation against him in the complaint.

After hearing both sides, the court denied bail and ordered him to be sent to prison.
