Actress Ridhika Ridhi’s boyfriend arrested in suicide-instigation case

Police have arrested actor and model Ridhika Ridhi’s boyfriend, Hasibur Rahman, after her mother filed a case accusing him of abetting her daughter’s alleged suicide at Vatara area in Dhaka.

Mazharul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Vatara police station, confirmed the arrest on Sunday morning (August 16).

He said Ridhi’s mother filed the case on Saturday, naming Hasibur as the sole accused under provisions relating to instigation of suicide. He was later produced before a court.

Police said Ridhi’s body was recovered from a residence in the Vatara area early Saturday. Preliminary findings indicate that she had been speaking to Hasibur over a video call shortly before her death, during which the two reportedly argued.

After recovering the body, police took Ridhi to Kurmitola General Hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Police initially suspected suicide, but investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding her death and whether anyone played a role in it.

“We are investigating the case. The investigation will determine the circumstances of her death and whether she was instigated to take her own life,” OC Mazharul Islam said.

Ridhi worked in both television drama and modelling. Her notable dramas include Ekhane Manush Bikri Hoy, Bohurupi, Double Honeymoon and Sundori.

Her sudden death has sent shockwaves through Bangladesh’s entertainment industry, with fellow artists and colleagues expressing grief over her passing.
