Ad-Din Hospital fined Tk 3 lakh
Ad-Din Medical College Hospital in Magbazar, capital, has been fined Tk 3 lakh for lacking temperature control meters and maintaining an unhygienic environment. The fine includes Tk 2 lakh under the Safe Food Act and Tk 1 lakh under the Consumer Rights Protection Act.
A three-member team led by Dhaka South City Corporation Executive Magistrate Mohammad Aminul Islam conducted the drive on Sunday afternoon, May 31.
Briefing the press after the drive, the executive magistrate said temperature control meters were not found in any ward refrigerator except the blood bank. Unhygienic conditions were also found in parts of the hospital, along with defective food labelling. The hospital authorities paid the fine immediately.
The drive came after the death of six newborns at the hospital on Wednesday, May 27, which caused a nationwide stir. Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain visited the hospital on Saturday and expressed anger after discovering an illegal bakery and unhygienic conditions. Journalists were attacked while trying to gather information.
A high-level government probe committee has been formed to investigate the cause of the six infant deaths. The committee is expected to submit its final and detailed report by June 3.
