Ad-Din Hospital's license revoked
The license of capital's Ad-Din Hospital has been canceled following the unnatural deaths of six newborns.
Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services Dr. Prabhat Chandra Biswas made the announcement on Thursday afternoon.
On May 27, the day before Eid, six newborns died one after another in the post-delivery ward of Ad-Din Medical College Hospital in Moghbazar.
After the incident, various media outlets raised issues of mismanagement of the hospital, doctor shortage, failure in emergency medical services, excessive patient pressure, inadequate ventilation system, long-term shutdown of the air-conditioning system and structural defects.
The Ministry of Health and the Directorate General of Health Services formed separate investigation committees in this incident. The investigation report stated that evidence of 'negligence' was found by the hospital authorities.
On June 9, Supreme Court lawyer Barrister MMG Sarwar sent legal notices to eight officials of the Health Ministry, the Health Department and the police administration in this incident. The notice sought the publication of the investigation report, legal action against those responsible, and an explanation of the role of the relevant authorities. It also warned that a writ petition would be filed in the High Court if action was not taken within seven days.
