Advisers, press secretary confined again after brief release
Two advisers and a press secretary are currently confined within Milestone College due to student opposition. They attempted to leave the campus under police escort at 3:30pm on Tuesday (July 22), but before they could reach the school gate, angry students blocked the road at the Diabari Roundabout, forcing the advisers to turn back into the campus.
The advisers are still inside the campus, while students persist in blocking the road at the roundabout, chanting slogans like "Vua! Vua!" Earlier in the day, Law Adviser Asif Nazrul and Education Adviser CR Abrar had visited the campus.
The students started protesting on Tuesday morning, demanding compensation and six other points of action in response to the casualties from a plane crash near the school on Monday. At 9:45am, Asif Nazrul faced intense criticism from the students, who chanted "Vua! Vua!" when they saw him. Even when law enforcement vehicles arrived, the students continued chanting slogans like "We want justice" and "Why did my brother die? The administration must answer!"
Later, the law adviser met with representatives of the teachers and students. Alongside Education Adviser CR Abrar, Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, and Deputy Press Secretary Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, Asif Nazirul assured the students that all their demands would be accepted.
Immediately after his statement, angry students rushed towards them, and the police had to intervene, pushing the advisers and press secretary back into the conference room. Outside, students continued chanting "No politics with corpses," "Why did my brother die? We demand an answer," "We want justice," and "Vua! Vua!"
At around 2:15pm, a group of students blocked the main gate as they heard the advisers were about to leave. During this time, a police vehicle was vandalized. Riot police and other law enforcement units arrived shortly after. By 3:00pm, several platoons of the Armed Police Battalion (APBN), DMPI reserve police, and the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) entered the campus.
Teachers stepped in to help clear the area and told students to leave. With the increased police presence, most students eventually dispersed and left the campus.
