Aedes mosquito larvae found in several houses in Gulshan
The National Task Force has conducted a special operation in the capital's Gulshan area to control dengue and destroy Aedes mosquito breeding grounds. Aedes mosquito larvae were found in three of the six houses inspected during the operation. In addition, a fine of Tk 50,000 was imposed on a restaurant after larvae were detected.
A 'mosquito extermination operation' was conducted in the area adjacent to the Gulshan Youth Club ground at the initiative of the National Task Force formed to control dengue on Wednesday. State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam was present at the operation.
During the operation, a fine of Tk 50,000 was imposed on the establishment after Aedes mosquito larvae were found in a restaurant on Road No. 107 in Gulshan. A provision of two months' imprisonment has also been mentioned for non-payment of the fine. At the same time, punitive action was taken against the owners concerned as larvae were detected in three of the six residential buildings inspected.
After the campaign, State Minister Mir Shahe Alam said that a national task force has been formed to control the dengue situation in Dhaka city alone. This campaign has been launched with the aim of increasing public awareness and ensuring citizen participation. This is the first activity of the task force.
He also said that in addition to government initiatives to prevent dengue, citizens must also be aware. If stagnant water around homes and institutions is not cleaned regularly, it will not be possible to prevent the spread of Aedes mosquitoes.
Meanwhile, as part of the campaign, 'Nova Luron' tablets, which have long-term effectiveness in destroying mosquito larvae, were distributed and applied. The concerned have urged citizens to regularly remove water accumulated in flower pots, old tires, abandoned buckets and other containers.
Health experts say that destroying mosquito breeding grounds is the most effective way to prevent dengue. Therefore, emphasis is being placed on public awareness and citizen participation along with government campaigns.
