Mohammad Rayhan has posted a video of himself firing a pistol on his Facebook story about five and a half hours after a Jubo Dal activist was shot dead in public in Raozan, Chattogram. Police said Rayhan is known as a follower of Sazzad Hossain, a fugitive criminal based abroad.

The video was posted around 3am on Thursday. It shows Rayhan holding a 9mm pistol and firing three consecutive shots. However, it could not be confirmed when and where the video was recorded.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Media) of Chattogram district Md Rasel said the matter is being investigated. It is being examined whether the video was recorded recently or earlier.

According to police and local sources, Rayhan, 35, studied up to third grade. He once drove a CNG-run auto-rickshaw. Police claim he also sold moonshine liquor in disguise.

According to police, Rayhan met Sazzad Hossain, also known as Chhoto Sazzad, while in jail in a case of attempted murder. After being released on bail following August 5, 2024, he allegedly became involved in various crimes. He has also been accused of firing at people for trivial reasons.

Police claim that even though Sazzad recently went to jail, Rayhan has been looking after his arsenal. On July 29, another member of Sazzad's group, Mobarak Hossain Emon, also known as David Emon, was arrested from Jashore. On the same day, police conducted a raid to arrest Rayhan in Noakhali, but he managed to flee.

In the meantime, on Thursday night around 9:30pm, Jubo Dal activist Muhammad Karim (35) was shot dead in the Keranirhat area of Urkirchar union in Raozan upazila.

According to eyewitnesses, after Karim entered the market, a group of people on four to five motorcycles surrounded him. One of them struck Karim on the neck and head with a sharp weapon. As he fell bleeding, several people shot him. They then left the scene on motorcycles.

Police said the deceased Karim had at least 10 cases against him, including theft, drugs, robbery, snatching and abduction. He had also been in jail on multiple occasions.
