Education main tool for nation-building: Chief adviser
Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus has highlighted the importance of both formal and non-formal education programmes to build an illiteracy-free Bangladesh.
"Education is one of the basic human rights. Education is also the main tool of nation-building," he said in a message marking the International Literacy Day on Sunday (September 8).
Foreign Adviser expresses surprise over Rajnath Singh’s remarks
Foreign Affairs Adviser M Touhid Hossain has expressed surprise rather than concern over India's recent call for its armed forces to be ready in response to the situation in Bangladesh, Ukraine and Palestine.
He made this statement during a press briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday.
BB lifts cash withdrawal limit from Sunday
Bangladesh Bank (BB) has suspended the restriction on cash withdrawal and the decision will come into effect from Sunday (September 8).

Ex-BCL leader succumbs to injury after sustaining mob beating
A former leader of the Rajshahi University (RU) Chhatra League, Abdullah Al Masud, succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Sunday (8 September) in a Rajshahi hospital, after miscreants beat him up in Binodpur Bazar area near RU campus on late Saturday night (7 September).
Critically injured Masud was handed over to the police later. He died around 12:30am while undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH), said SM Masud Parvez, officer-in-charge (OC) of Boalia police station.
Jashim Uddin appointed as foreign secretary of Bangladesh
The government has appointed Md. Jashim Uddin as the 27th Foreign Secretary of Bangladesh, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Sunday.
A career diplomat, Jashim joined Bangladesh foreign service in 1994. Jashim, from the 13th batch of BCS (Foreign Affairs) Cadre, served extensively both at home and abroad.
UGC member Prof Alamgir steps down
Professor Muhammed Alamgir has resigned from his position as a full-time member of the University Grants Commission (UGC). He was also the acting chairman of the UGC until recently, when a new chairman was appointed.
He submitted his resignation to the senior secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division under the Ministry of Education on Sunday.
ICT launches genocide probe into July-Aug uprising
The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) launched investigations on Sunday into the killings by law enforcers and Awami League activists during the July-August student-led mass movement.
Newly appointed ICT Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam made the announcement at a press briefing on the tribunal’s premises on Sunday.
Normalcy returns to RMG factories
Most of the RMG factories in Ashulia opened Sunday (September 8) morning following the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) directive.
However, sources at the industrial police said some factories were forced to declare holidays as the discussions between the owners and workers were not fruitful.
Moeen Ali retires from international cricket at 37
England allrounder Moeen Ali has retired from international cricket at age 37, the player told the Daily Mail in an interview published on Saturday.
"I'm 37 years old and didn't get picked for this month's Australia series," Ali said.
"I've played a lot of cricket for England. It's time for the next generation, which was also explained to me. It felt the time was right. I've done my part."

The Bollywood couple Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh entered a new phase of their life as they welcomed their first child on Sunday (September 8).
As per multiple news reports, they welcomed their newborn at HN Reliance hospital in Mumbai. Hindustan Times has not independently confirmed the authenticity of this information.
