Tawfiq-e-Elahi arrested
Sheikh Hasina’s power, energy, and mineral resources affairs adviser Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury has been arrested.
A team of the Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police apprehended him in the capital’s Gulshan area on Tuesday night.
Former additional attorney general, AL leader held
Former Additional Attorney General Barrister Md Mehedi Hasan Chowdhury and Riyaz Mahmud Ainal, an advisory council member of the Gazipur Metropolitan Awami League, have been detained. Jhenaidah district police captured them while they were attempting to illegally cross the border on Tuesday night.
Two allegedly tortured to death by law enforcement agency in Gaibandha
Two people were reportedly tortured to death during a law enforcement raid in Saghata, Gaibandha. After the late-night operation on Monday (September 9), they died while being treated in separate hospitals by noon on Tuesday (September 10). However, the police claimed they died due to illness.
The deceased were identified as Sohrab Hossain, 35, and Shafiqul Islam, 45, of Gobindi village in Saghata union of the district.
Waterlogging in Jessore's Bhabadah again, leaving 25 villages submerged
Thousands of families in the Bhabadah of Jessore are once again suffering from waterlogging, with 25 villages now submerged, leaving people trapped in floodwaters and leading lives of extreme hardship.
Despite the severity of the situation, no government aid has yet been provided. On the contrary, affected residents have been forced to sell their livestock at low prices to cope with the crisis.
Brazil, Argentina suffer defeats on same day
Argentina and Brazil, two superpowers of Latin American football, both lost their matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers on Wednesday.
After losing three straight matches in the South American qualifiers, Brazil bounced back with a 1-0 win over Ecuador last Saturday. However, they lost again in their next game.

BSF deploys bees along Bangladesh border to prevent infiltration, smuggling
Since July-August of this year, the ongoing political unrest and subsequent instability in Bangladesh have raised concerns along the India-Bangladesh border as well.
According to the Indian defense department, a major issue is the infiltration from Bangladesh. During times of political instability, many people attempt to cross the border.
Mashrafe among 90 sued in Narail
A case has been filed against 90 people, including former Bangladesh cricket team captain and former MP of Narail-2 constituency Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, for allegedly attacking students and others during the anti-discrimination protests.
Sheikh Mostafa AL-Muzahidur Rahman Palash filed the case at Narail Sadar Police Station on Tuesday night.
Saiful Islam, the officer-in-charge of the station, confirmed the matter.
Citycell seeks license reinstatement
Bangladesh’s first telecom operator, Citycell, has requested the return of its cancelled licence.
Pacific Bangladesh Telecom Ltd, Citycell’s owner, made the request in a letter sent to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) on September 1, according to media reports.

Police arrested a man for vandalizing an idol and illegally occupying homestead of Hindu family in Bagha, Rajshahi.
The arrestee, Md. Altaf Ali, hails from Jotarghu village in Bagha, Rajshahi. Additional Superintendent of Police (DSB) of Rajshahi said Md Rafiqul Islam confirmed the matter on Wednesday.
Govt forms taskforce to reframe 'sustainable economic strategies'
The government has formed a 12-member taskforce, titled "Re-strategising the economy and mobilising resources for equitable and sustainable development", to reframe sustainable economic strategies.
A circular issued by the Planning Division on September 10 confirmed that the task force will be led by Dr. KAS Murshid, the former Director General of the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies.

BSF returns teen Jayanta`s body after two days
The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has returned the body of school student Jayanta Kumar Singha, who was shot dead near the Bangladesh-India border in Baliadangi upazila of Thakurgaon district.
The BSF returned the body to Bangladesh Police at Pillar No. 393 in Dhantala border in the upazila early on Wednesday, said Baliadangi Police Station chief Firoz Kabir.
The deceased – 15-year-old Jayanta – is the son of Mohadeb Kumar Singha from Fakir Bhita village in the upazila, reports bdnews24.com.
