Former DMP commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia arrested
Former commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Asaduzzaman Mia has been arrested from the capital's Mohakhali area.
Rapid Action Battalion arrested him around 11pm on Wednesday and taken him to Khilgaon police station.
Khaleda Zia taken to Evercare Hospital
BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has been taken to Evercare Hospital in the capital for health check-ups.
She arrived at the hospital from her Gulshan residence around 1:40am on Thursday, said BNP media cell member Sayrul Kabir Khan.
ATM Tariquzzaman removed as commissioner of BSEC
The Financial Institutions Division (FID) of the finance ministry on Wednesday removed ATM Tariquzzaman from the commissioner post at the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC).

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested former Chattogram-6 MP ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury.
MP Fazle Karim Chowdhury of Chattogram's Raujan (Chattogram-6) while fleeing to India illegally on the border route.
A team of Sarail Battalion (25 BGB) arrested him on the Akhaura border road of Brahmanbaria on Thursday (September 12) morning.
Barrister Sumon sued among 97 others
A case has been filed against former member of parliament, Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Sumon among 98 individuals of Awami League and its affiliates for ordering the attack on the anti-discrimination student movement at Chunarughat in Habiganj.
Nasir Uddin, joint convener of Upazila Jubo Dal filed the case at Chunarughat Police Station on Wednesday (September 11).
Pathao co-founder Fahim Saleh’s killer sentenced to 40 years in jail
A personal assistant convicted of killing and dismembering his former tech entrepreneur boss Fahim Saleh was sentenced to 40 years to life in prison on Tuesday, Associated Press reports quoting Manhattan’s district attorney.
The Manhattan Supreme Court handed down the sentence on Tuesday for Haspil, 25, after a jury found him guilty of first-degree murder, grand larceny, concealment of a human corpse and related counts in June, reports the New York Daily News.
300 sacks of VGF rice looted after extortion payment not made
It is alleged that 300 sacks of rice allocated for the poor under the VGF program were looted from a dealer's warehouse, led by a BNP leader, after the dealer refused to pay an extortion demand of Tk 2 lakh.
The incident occurred last Monday afternoon at the Haria Nimtola market in Jhikargacha upazila, Jessore.
In connection with this, the victim, Hasanuzzaman, filed a complaint at the Jhikargacha police station on Tuesday ( September 10).
Entry fee of Botanical Garden reduced
The entry fee for National Botanical Garden in Mirpur has been revised following a directive from Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change.
The ministry issued a notification in this regard on Tuesday.
Bangladesh announces Test squad for series against India
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Thursday announced the 16-member squad for the two-match Test series against India, with wicketkeeper-batter Zaker Ali Anik included in the team.
Meanwhile, pacer Shoriful Islam, who was injured during the Pakistan series, was left out of the squad as he has not yet fully recovered from a groin injury.
Death toll from storms in Vietnam rises to 197
The number of people killed after Typhoon Yagi swept through northern Vietnam bringing flash floods and landslides has risen to 197, the government said Thursday.
About 128 people are still missing and more than 250,000 hectares of crops have also been destroyed, disaster officials under the ministry of agriculture said in an official report.
Yagi is the most powerful typhoon to hit northern Vietnam in 30 years, according to meteorologists.
Inu, Menon, Palak, Mamun jailed after remand
A court in Dhaka on Thursday ordered to send Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JaSoD) president and former minister Hasanul Haq Inu, Workers Party president Rashed Khan Menon, former state minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak and former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun to jail in separate murder cases.
Ex-DGFI DG Saiful sent on compulsory retirement
The army has sent former director general of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) Md Saiful Alam into forced retirement.
The armed forces also removed its officer Lt Gen Mojibur Rahman from his position, according to a notice issued by them on Wednesday night (11 September).
Police starts to crack down on 3-wheelers in Dhaka
Dhaka Metropolitan Police has started a drive to evict battery-run autorickshaws from the streets of Dhaka city.
Battery-driven autorishaws were being removed from several roads in the capital including Dhandmondi-32, Panthapath and Russel Square since Thursday morning.
