UNB chairman Amanullah Khan passes away
Amanullah Khan, founding chairman of United News of Bangladesh (UNB), passed away on Thursday. He was 80.
Amanullah Khan, also the chairman of Cosmos Group of Companies, breathed his last around 5pm in the capital's United Hospital while undergoing treatment there due to old age complications.
He left behind his wife, brothers, many close relatives and a host of well-wishers to mourn his death.
US eases travel advisory for Bangladesh
The United States has lowered its travel advisory for Bangladesh from Level 4 to Level 3, urging its citizens to reconsider travel rather than avoiding it entirely. This adjustment signals a perceived reduction in immediate threats to US nationals.
The revised advisory was issued shortly before a US delegation's scheduled visit to Bangladesh.

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) 6 have arrested former lawmaker from Jhenaidah-1 constituency Nayeb Ali Jowardar, in connection with an attack, vandalism, and arson that took place in the Jhenaidah Sadar area on August 4.
Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant resumes production
After being completely shut down for three days, the Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant in Dinajpur has resumed partial electricity production.
Chief Engineer of the thermal power plant, Abu Bakr Siddique, stated that after overhauling, the 125 MW capacity Unit 1 was brought back online at 5:00 pm on Thursday, and power production began after 8 pm. Around 60 to 65 MW of the generated electricity is being supplied to the national grid, reports UNB.
Landslide claims six lives in Cox's Bazar
At least six people from two families died in separate landslides triggered by a heavy rainfall with 378 mm in Cox's Bazar early Friday.
The deceased were identified as Akhi Moni, wife of Mizanur Rahman, and her two daughters Miha Jannat Naima and Latifa Islam from Dikkul area under Jhilongjha union and Abdur Rahim, Abdul Hafez, and Abdul Wahed, sons of Kabir Ahmed, from Rohingya camp in Ukhiya upazila in Cox's Bazar.
Police inspector Arafat Hossain detained in Ashulia burning case
Police Inspector Arafat Hossain has been detained for his alleged involvement in burning dead bodies in Ashulia during the anti-discrimination student protest.
A team of RAB-3 arrested him from capital's Aftabnagar early on Friday morning (September 13).
BGB-BSF carry out 1367 joint patrol along vulnerable border areas
In a coordinated effort, Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) and Border Security Force (BSF) have conducted 1,367 joint patrols along vulnerable border areas to enhance security and stability.
Since August 12, the BSF and the BGB have held at least 722 meetings at various levels to discuss these issues.

Donald Trump said Thursday (September12) that he would not take part in another debate with Kamala Harris, as the White House rivals headed back to battleground states that are set to decide a nail-bitingly close US presidential election.
The Republican former president lashed out two days after his first televised clash with the Democratic vice president, when Harris put Trump on the defensive and got under his skin with a series of barbs.
Boxer Zinnat wins bronze in Silesian Open
US-based Bangladeshi boxer Zinnat Ferdous clinched bronze medal at international women’s boxing championship known as Silesian Open held in Poland which is likely Bangladesh's first medal from the European Boxing Confederation.
The official name of the tournament was XIX International Silesian Women’s Boxing Championships.
It took place in Gliwice, Poland.
Broadband internet restored, mobile data remains disrupted in Manipur's 5 districts
The Manipur government has restored access to the internet via broadband connections in five valley districts, three days after it snapped mobile and broadband internet due to protests by students in the state capital Imphal.
In an order today, the state government said access to the internet via mobile data continues to remain blocked, source NDTV.
The five valley districts are Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, and Kakching.
