The government has decided to make Ahsan H Mansur the new governor of Bangladesh Bank, said sources from Finance Ministry on Tuesday (13 August). Sources said it has been proposed to remove the age limit for the governor of Bangladesh Bank. Earlier, the maximum age limit was 67 years. A decision to raise the age limit may be made at the advisory councilor meeting chaired by the chief advisor Dr Yunus at 4:30 pm today. Finance Ministry sources said if the age limit is removed in the appointment of the Governor of Bangladesh Bank, there is no obstacle for Ahsan H Mansur to become the BB governor.

আহসান এইচ মনসুরকে বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের নতুন গভর্নর করার সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে সরকার। আজ মঙ্গলবার (১৩ আগস্ট) অর্থ মন্ত্রণালয় সূত্র থেকে এ তথ্য নিশ্চিত করা হয়েছে। এদিকে বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের গভর্নরের জন্য নির্ধারিত বয়সসীমা তুলে দেওয়ার প্রস্তাব করা হয়েছে। আগে নির্ধারিত বয়সসীমা ছিল সর্বোচ্চ ৬৭ বছর। এ বিষয়টি নিয়ে আজ বিকেল সাড়ে ৪টায় প্রধান উপদেষ্টার সভাপতিত্বে উপদেষ্টা কাউন্সিলেরর সভায় বয়স তুলে দেওয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত হতে পারে। অর্থ মন্ত্রণালয় সূত্রে জানা যায়, বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের গভর্নর নিয়োগের ক্ষেত্রে বয়সসীমা তুলে দিলে আহসান এইচ মনসুরের দায়িত্ব নিতে সমস্যা নেই।
