Ahsan Habib appointed new NBR chairman

The government has appointed Ahsan Habib as the new chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), replacing the previous leadership at the country's apex tax authority.

The appointment was confirmed through a notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Monday (June 29).

A member of the 15th Bangladesh Civil Service (Tax) cadre, Ahsan Habib previously served as director general of the NBR's Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) and as member (Tax Administration and Human Resource Management). During his career, he played a key role in several high-profile investigations into corruption and money laundering.

Academically, he graduated from the Department of Geology at the University of Dhaka, securing first class first position. He also topped his BCS batch in the civil service examination.

His appointment comes at a time when the revenue administration is facing growing challenges in tax collection, compliance and ongoing reform initiatives aimed at strengthening the country's fiscal management.
