AI used to pose as female soldier for romance, allegation of swindling Tk 7 lakh from expatriate

Tofayel Alam Titu, 35, has been arrested by Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), Dhaka district, on allegation of creating images of a female member of Bangladesh Army using artificial intelligence (AI) and using them on social media. There is also allegation against him of building a romantic relationship with an Italy-based young man by speaking in a female voice and swindling about Tk 7 lakh from him through various tactics.

PBI said Tofayel Alam Titu was arrested from Darus Salam area of Dhaka on September 20. At that time three mobile phones including SIMs of bKash and Nagad accounts used in the fraud work were recovered from him.

Superintendent of Police of PBI Dhaka district MN Morshed informed these details at a press conference organised at PBI Dhaka district office on Sunday (September 27).

According to PBI, Shahadat Khan, 22, is the Italy-based son of Shahnaz Begum, 46, of Barisur Baghbari area under Keraniganj Model Police Station. Titu’s acquaintance with Shahadat happened through a Facebook page named ‘Lady Soldier/Nari Joddha’. Images and videos of a person in the dress of a female member of Bangladesh Army were used on that page.

Those related to the investigation claimed that Titu created a close relationship with Shahadat by giving the identity of the female army member used on that page and speaking on phone in a female voice. Later about Tk 7 lakh was taken from Shahadat and his family through bKash and Nagad by various tactics. At one stage Shahadat and his mother understood the matter as fraud.

In this incident a CR case was first filed from Shahadat’s side. The number of that case filed in Keraniganj is 1050/26, date July 8, 2026. During investigation PBI collected various information and evidence as well as analysed the transaction information of bKash and Nagad and identified the location of the suspected person.

Afterwards case number 28 was filed at Keraniganj Model Police Station on September 10 on the basis of the plaintiff’s complaint. Charges under sections 406 and 420 of the Penal Code have been brought in it. On September 13 PBI Dhaka district took the responsibility of investigation of the case on its own initiative. SI (unarmed) Md Manzur Rahman is investigating the case.

PBI said after getting information of Titu’s involvement through analysis of information and various documents in the investigation he was arrested from Darus Salam area around 3:35pm on September 20. Later the three recovered mobile phones and SIMs were seized through seizure list.

The next day on September 21 when he was produced in court one day’s remand was granted. PBI claimed that after the remand Titu gave a confessional statement under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure in court on September 23.

In the investigation PBI further came to know that Titu can speak in a female voice. After communicating with the victim through Facebook Messenger he used to speak with Shahadat in a female voice on Imo. The organisation said it has come up in the investigation that money was taken through bKash and Nagad at various times by telling Shahadat’s mother about his mother’s illness.

PBI further said by verifying PCR it has been found that there is CR case number 453/25 against Titu in Kishoreganj court. PBI also said the court has issued warrant against him after completion of investigation of that case.

Whether anyone else is involved in this fraud incident and whether any additional information is available about the misappropriated money is being examined. The investigation activities of the case are continuing.
