AL fought in liberation war but failed to preserve achievements: Jamaat Ameer
Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, Shafiqur Rahman said, "Awami League fought in the liberation war. But the party could not maintain its achievements."
The Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer made this comment following a discussion with members of the Indian Media Correspondents Association Bangladesh (IMCAB) in Dhaka's Moghbazar on Tuesday.
In response to a question about former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's stay in India, Shafiqur Rahman said, "It was inappropriate for her to leave the country after ruling for 15 and a half years, much like Lakshman Sen. Jamaat leaders never abandoned the country; they endured prison and oppression. Our leaders stayed and faced the challenges, never leaving the country."
The Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer stated, "The judiciary has been destroyed, with a Chief Justice forced into exile. There is no functioning election commission or electoral system in the country. Instead of serving the people, the police force has become an enemy. There needs to be sufficient time for elections and a call for national reform. Currently, Jamaat's primary focus is to support the students who were killed or injured and their families during the revolution."
