A team from RAB-9 has arrested Ashraful Islam, the vice-president of the Upazila Awami League, in Beanibazar, Sylhet. The arrest was made at Tilpara in the upazila on Friday night (December 20). Md Chhabed Ali, oc (investigation) of Beanibazar Police Station, confirmed this. He said, 'There are several cases against Ashraful Islam. He will now be handed over to the CID.' Earlier, on the afternoon of August 5, a group of people attacked the Beanibazar Police Station, leading to police gunfire that resulted in the deaths of three individuals. Subsequently, a case was filed naming leaders of the Awami League and its affiliates in connection with the incident. However, a plaintiff of the case has apealled to the court requesting the withdrawal of the case.

সিলেটের বিয়ানীবাজারে উপজেলা আওয়ামী লীগের সহ-সভাপতি আশরাফুল ইসলামকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়েছে। শুক্রবার (২০ ডিসেম্বর) রাতে র‌্যাব- ৯ এর একটি দল উপজেলার তিলপারা নামক স্থান থেকে তাকে গ্রেপ্তার করে বলে জানান বিয়ানীবাজার থানার ওসি (তদন্ত) মো. ছবেদ আলি। তিনি আরও জানান, আশরাফুল ইসলামের বিরুদ্ধে একাধিক মামলা রয়েছে। এখন তাকে সিআইডিতে পাঠানো হবে। উল্লেখ্য, গত ৫ আগস্ট বিকালে একদল লোক বিয়ানীবাজার থানায় হামলা চালায়। এ সময় পুলিশের গুলিতে তিনজন নিহত হয়। পরবর্তীতে এ ঘটনায় আওয়ামী লীগ ও তার অঙ্গ-সংগঠনের নেতাদের নামে মামলা দায়ের করা হয়। জানা গেছে, এই হত্যা মামলার এজাহারভুক্ত আসামি আশরাফুল ইসলাম। এর মধ্যে মামলার একজন বাদি মামলাটি প্রত্যাহারের জন্য আদালতে আবেদন দিয়েছেন ।
