AL leaders seek votes for paddy sheaf chanting 'Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu'

A few Awami League leaders were present at a recent courtyard meeting held as part of the election campaign of BNP candidate Nadira Akhter for Madaripur-1 (Shibchar) constituency and expressed their support for the paddy sheaf candidate.

At the courtyard meeting held at Khan Bari of Shibchar Municipality on Tuesday evening, leaders of BNP and local affiliate organizations gathered and sought votes for Nadira Akhter. The leaders and activists of Awami League were aldo present there and chanted 'Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu' slogans.

According to Awami League leaders, they are supporting the paddy sheaf candidate on the instructions of former Chief Whip Noor-e Alam Chowdhury Liton. This has created a new discussion in local politics.

While speaking at the courtyard meeting, Nadira Akhter said, "We will move unitedly and bring BNP to victory. No one will be harassed unnecessarily after the election. If there is unity, it will not be difficult to modernize and develop Shibchar as Shibchar comes first."

The meeting was attended by former Shibchar Upazila Awami League President and Municipal Mayor Md. Awlad Hossain Khan, Awami League President of Kanthalbari Union and former Upazila Vice Chairman BM Atahar Bepari, Shibchar Upazila Jubo League President Ilias Pasha, Char Janajat Union Parishad Chairman Jahangir Hossain Raihan Sarkar, Kathalbari Union Chairman Mohsin Uddin, Baheratla Uttar Union Chairman Md. Zakir Hossain Haider, Madbarerchar Union Parishad Chairman Fazlu Munshi, Banshkandi Union Chairman Asaduzzaman Khokon Bayati, Qutubpur Union Chairman Md. Haji Atiqur Madbar, former councilors of the municipality and other local leaders and activists.

According to BNP sources, Nadira Akhter's nomination was initially suspended, so she re-joined the party with the help of district and upazila BNP leaders. In this process, the central committee expelled two rebel candidates and 10 leaders of Shibchar Upazila BNP from the party.

Upazila BNP member secretary Sohal Rana conducted the courtyard meeting. Municipal BNP senior joint convener Hemayet Hossain Khan presided over the meeting.
