Al-Azhar University in Egypt, one of the world's leading Islamic institutions of higher education, has increased the number of scholarships for Bangladeshi students from 12 to 24, the Bangladesh embassy in Cairo said on Saturday, July 11.

The move effectively doubles the opportunities for Bangladeshi students to pursue higher education at the prestigious university. Head of Chancery Ataul Haque met with Nahla Saidi, Advisor for International Students to the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, at the Bangladesh embassy.

Nahla Saidi said the decision to increase the scholarships was made following a request from Bangladesh Ambassador Samina Naz, allowing more Bangladeshi students to study at Al-Azhar.

During the meeting, Saidi briefed the embassy on the university's newly formulated policies, ongoing activities and overall situation.
