Alif Murder Case: trial begins for 39 accused, including Chinmoy Das
The formal trial in the murder case of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif began on Monday (January 19) at the Chattogram Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal, with 39 accused, including Chinmoy Krishna Das, facing charges.
Tribunal Judge Md. Zahidul Haq framed the charges and ordered the commencement of the trial.
Arrested defendants, including Chinmoy Das, were produced in court under tight security.
Assistant Public Prosecutor Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury said the first hearing was held on January 14 for document review. The trial formally began on January 19 with all accused present.
According to the case, on November 26, 2024, Chinmoy Krishna Das’s bail request in a sedition case was denied. He and his supporters allegedly caused disorder in the court premises and attacked police. Lawyer Alif was assaulted with sharp weapons, sticks, rods, and stones, sustaining 26 serious injuries, including a broken leg, and later died at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
