All CNG stations closed in Brahmanbaria amid gas shortage

All CNG filling stations in Brahmanbaria have been shut down due to a severe gas crisis, causing immense suffering for passengers as CNG-run auto-rickshaws have become scarce.

Some auto-rickshaws are running on LPG as an alternative, but passengers have complained of extra fares.

Gas supply to filling stations in the district was completely suspended from Thursday night. Prior to this, stations had been receiving gas at lower-than-normal pressure for over two weeks. While the normal supply pressure is around 15 PSI, stations had been receiving only 3-4 PSI for a long time.

The pressure dropped further from Wednesday, and supply was completely halted from Thursday night.

The shortage has reduced the number of CNG auto-rickshaws on city and surrounding roads, leaving many passengers waiting for long periods. Some operators are reportedly charging higher than the fixed fares.

Passengers reported that the fixed fare of Tk 60 on the Koutli-Akhaura Bypass route has risen to Tk 100, while fares on other routes have also increased significantly.

Azizul Haque, manager of Sopan Filling Station in Bishwaroad, Sarail, said gas supply has been suspended since Wednesday, making it impossible to refuel vehicles. Bakhrabad Gas authorities have assured them that supply may resume by Sunday or Monday, but they have no confirmed information on when the crisis will fully end.
