All Ebtedayee Madrasas to be nationalized in phases: Joint Secretary
All Ebtedayee Madrasas in the country will be nationalized in phases, said Joint Secretary of the Technical Madrasa Department S.M. Masudul Haque.
He gave this information after a meeting with a delegation of teachers on Tuesday.
S.M. Masudul Haque said, we have started working on several additional issues, including the six-point demands you had.
Agreeing with the first demand to nationalize all institutions, we have decided to nationalize all Ebtedayi Madrasas in Bangladesh in phases.
They had several other demands, such as academic recognition being suspended, which we will start this June. We have taken a new decision, we will start MPO registration of all your Ebtedayi Madrasas from 2025. In the initial stage, we will nationalize all other madrasas, including the 1,519 primary independent Ebtedayi Madrasas that are under grant.
Earlier, teachers of Ebtedayi Madrasa had been protesting in front of the Press Club since January 19. As part of their demand for nationalization, they announced to march and submit a memorandum from the protest at the Press Club to the office of the Chief Advisor on Sunday (January 26). Then, when they reached Shahbagh Police Station from the National Press Club through Dhaka University, the police fired water cannons and lathi-charged them. In this context, the teachers started a protest from Tuesday morning as well. They warned of a tough movement if the announcement was not made by 2 pm.
