All forces fully prepared to ensure free, fair election: CEC
Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin has stated that all law enforcement agencies in Bangladesh are taking maximum preparations to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election.
He made the remarks while inspecting an election-focused mock exercise at the BGB-5 Battalion ground in the capital's Pilkhana on Wednesday (November 26).
“Today I witnessed an excellent exercise designed with our election culture in mind. The BGB has trained to handle all possible election-related situations, which is very satisfying,” the CEC said.
He added that election duties come once every 4–5 years, requiring specialised training for the forces. Alongside border security, the BGB, police, Ansar, and other forces are undergoing election-specific training, which is expected to play a crucial role on polling day.
“All law enforcement agencies are preparing their personnel responsibly. This training will significantly impact security on election day. Together with journalists and voters, we aim to ensure a smooth election,” he said.
On the current law and order situation, he noted, “While the situation is not perfect, it has improved significantly compared to 5 August. Conditions are likely to improve further as the election approaches.”
The CEC said a final deployment strategy will be decided in a meeting with law enforcement on 30 November. Regarding military deployment, he stated that the army will work in a contingent capacity, and decisions will be made carefully.
He also warned that anyone attempting to obstruct the election will face legal action and urged journalists, voters, and the public to cooperate. Risk-prone polling centers will be classified into red, yellow, and green zones for targeted force deployment.
The BGB has confirmed it will deploy 1,210 platoons nationwide for the 13th National Parliamentary Election, covering all upazilas except Sandwip, Hatia, and Kutubdia. Among 115 border upazilas, the BGB will operate independently in 60 upazilas.
The mock exercise was attended by BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuluzzaman Siddique, senior force officials, and Election Commission representatives.
