All public transport will operate tomorrow: BRTWF
Despite the nationwide lockdown called by the banned Awami League on Monday, all types of vehicles will operate, announced the Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation (BRTWF).
On Sunday, November 16, at a press conference held in Motijheel, Dhaka, the organisation’s acting General Secretary Humayun Kabir Khan gave this information.
Humayun Kabir said, “Transport owners and workers are fulfilling their responsibilities to keep the country’s communication system operational. Any unexpected situation will be prevented. Administrative officials are also working hard to maintain law and order and normal activities in the country.”
He alleged, “The Awami League has announced the lockdown to disrupt preparations for the upcoming national election. The Federation condemns such programmes and sabotage and has demanded appropriate compensation from the government for affected workers and owners.”
The organisation reported that during the Awami League’s ‘Dhaka Lockdown’ programme last Thursday, arson attacks were carried out on nearly 20 vehicles across the country. In Mymensingh, a bus was set on fire and the driver Julhas was killed. In protest, transport workers staged demonstration marches nationwide.
It is noted that the verdict in the war crimes case related to the July mass uprising against the ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and three other accused will be announced tomorrow. In response, the Awami League has called for a nationwide lockdown.
