All schools to go on vacation from February 19-March 26
Ramadan vacations will start in secondary schools from tomorrow, February 19. The vacations will continue until March 26. The Ministry of Education issued a notification in this regard on Wednesday (February 18) night.
The notification said that the notification issued on December 28, 2025, with the original memorandum number: 37.00.0000.071.04.002.02 (part)-507, has been amended to determine the holiday list and curriculum for the 2026 academic year of government and private secondary and lower secondary schools.
The notification mentioned that there will be a total of 36 days of vacation from February 19 to March 26 on the occasion of the holy Ramadan, the advent of Sri Sri Harichand Thakur, Shab-e-Qadr (March 17), Jumatul Bida (March 20), Eid-ul-Fitr (March 21) and Independence and National Day (March 26).
The Secondary and Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education has brought amendments to the annual holiday list after long discussions. The department has announced the closure of schools from the first day of Ramadan.
Earlier, a writ was filed in the High Court seeking an order to close schools during the holy month of Ramadan. The writ was heard on February 15. In the hearing, the High Court ordered the closure of government and private secondary and lower secondary schools throughout Ramadan from February 18. However, the Appellate Division Chamber Court later stayed the order after hearing an appeal against the High Court order. The court, headed by Chamber Justice Farah Mahbub, ordered the stay.
Even though schools are closed, teachers and guardians have been advised to support students in their studies from home to maintain the continuity of educational activities.
