All suspects identified in Old Dhaka businessman murder, 4 arrested

Police have identified all individuals connected to the brutal killing of a scrap businessman outside Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital in Old Dhaka. So far, law enforcement has arrested four of the suspects.

Mohammad Yasin Shikder, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station, said, “So far, two suspects named Mohin and Tarek have been arrested. The others have been identified, and efforts are ongoing to arrest them.”

According to a press release from Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Friday (July 11), the victim Sohag’s elder sister has filed a murder case at Kotwali Police Station. Based on the case, police analyzed CCTV footage from the crime scene and conducted operations in different parts of Dhaka, leading to the arrest of two named accused: Mahmudul Hasan Mohin (41) and Tarek Rahman Robin (22).

DMP said the murder may have been caused by business rivalry and past enmity. The investigation is ongoing to uncover the exact reason and arrest the remaining suspects.

The remaining suspects believed to be directly involved in the incident include Mahmudul Hasan Mohin, Sarwar Hossain Titu, Monir (alias Chhoto Monir), Alamgir, Monir (alias Lomba Monir), Nannu, Sajib, Riad, Titon Gazi, Rakib, Saba Karim Laki, Kalu (alias Swechasebak Kalu), Rojob Ali Pintu, Md. Sirajul Islam, Robin, Mizan, Apu Das, Himmat Ali, and Anisur Rahman Howlader.

Meanwhile, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has stated that RAB-10 has arrested two people suspected to be involved in the brutal public killing in front of Mitford Hospital.

Wing Commander M Z M Intekhab Chowdhury, Director of RAB’s Legal and Media Wing, said, "RAB-10 arrested two suspects from Dhaka. More details will be shared later."

According to police sources, hospital services were running during the incident, and members of the Ansar security force were nearby. However, no one intervened during the horrifying act. Sohag was taken to the emergency department, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

According to eyewitnesses, the attackers continued their assault even after Sohag had died. They left his bloodied body lying in the street, with some jumping on his chest and others striking his face.
