Allegation of attack-vandalism on office in Mohammadpur, looting of money and equipment

Joynal Abedin has given a written complaint at the police station alleging attack, vandalism and looting in an attempt to grab land at an office in Chand Udyan Housing of Beribadh area in Mohammadpur of the capital. The incident took place on Saturday morning.

In the complaint Joynal Abedin said around 100 to 150 unknown persons entered their office on the second floor of Mohammadpur Twin Tower without permission around 10am on Saturday. They vandalised the office door, lock and windows, entered inside and searched various rooms and the store room.

The complaint further said the attackers took away cash of Tk 15 lakh, five laptops, two air-conditioners, three CCTV cameras and various furniture and equipment from the office on a truck.

Joynal Abedin alleged that Mostaker Rahman Khokon Chowdhury, Mohin, Prince and Alamin had been trying to grab their office for several days with the help of some local people. He also alleged that important documents and information of the organisation are at risk of being lost due to the attack and looting. At the same time the normal activities of the office have been disrupted along with financial and administrative losses.

However, police said the incident mainly took place centering on a dispute over possession of a plot of land.

Additional Deputy Police Commissioner of Tejgaon Zone Jewel Rana said the unwanted incident occurred on a plot of land adjacent to Rose Villa of Chand Udyan on the west side of Beribadh. A person named Alam had been in possession of the land for a long time. On Saturday around 150 to 200 people under the leadership of Joni and Rezaul illegally entered the land and broke the tin fence. Later they entered inside, carried out vandalism at the office and tried to grab the land by putting up a new tin fence on the boundary.

The police officer further said both sides are claiming to have their own documents regarding the ownership of the land. Police are collecting information on the matter.
