Allegation of beating a woman to death in Bhola over Facebook post, 2 arrested
Mamtaz Begum Rasu, 60, has been allegedly beaten to death during a clash between two sides over a Facebook post related to a land dispute in Daulatkhan upazila of Bhola. Police have shown two persons arrested in the murder case filed in this connection and sent them to court.
The arrested persons are Mo Kashem, 55, resident of Najir Bepari house of Ward No 8 under Joynagar union of Daulatkhan upazila, who is the number one accused of the case, and his wife Razia Begum, 50.
Rubina Begum, daughter of the deceased Mamtaz Begum, filed a murder case naming five persons as accused at Daulatkhan thana on Friday night (September 18). Kashem and Razia were shown arrested in that case and sent to Bhola court on Saturday morning.
The family of the deceased alleged that Mamtaz Begum was beaten and seriously injured at her own house around 8pm on Thursday. Later she died at her own residence around 2am.
According to the FIR of the case and the family’s allegation, on Thursday night Mainuddin, son of Mamtaz Begum’s brother-in-law Bajlu Bepari, posted on Facebook regarding a land-related matter. Over that post an altercation and clash took place among Kashem, his son Iqbal, wife Razia Begum and the deceased’s brother-in-law Bajlu. At one stage when Rasu Begum stepped forward to stop the clash she was beaten indiscriminately, according to the allegation.
Later after she died in injured condition police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue of Bhola General Hospital for autopsy. In this incident Kashem and his wife Razia were first detained and interrogated. Later they were shown arrested in the murder case.
Officer-in-charge of Daulatkhan thana Mo Fakhrul Islam said the eldest daughter of the deceased has filed a murder case naming five persons as accused. The number one and two accused of the case have been arrested and sent to court and the court has ordered them to be sent to jail.
He said the case is being investigated. Drive is on to arrest the remaining accused. Once the autopsy report is received the exact cause of Mamtaz Begum’s death will be confirmed.
