The victim has filed a written complaint at the police station against four persons including Kamal Sheikh of the same area and his two sons over the incident.

The incident took place in the Kumurtia ferry ghat area of Tagarband union of the upazila in the afternoon on Monday. Shanto, who was injured in the beating, has been admitted to Alfadanga Upazila Health Complex.

From the written complaint given at the police station and talking to the victim’s family it has been learnt that Ramiz Sheikh Shanto, son of Nur Alam of Kumurtia village, was preparing to go to Saudi Arabia. He set out for Dhaka for visa work in the afternoon on Monday. At that time there were Tk 2 lakh, passport and necessary documents in his bag.

The complaint said when Shanto reached Kumurtia ferry ghat, Kamal Sheikh of the same village and his two sons along with several others attacked him. Shanto has alleged that they beat him and took away the Tk 2 lakh, passport and necessary documents that were in the bag.

At that time when Shanto shouted local people came forward. It is alleged that when people came forward the attackers left the spot after threatening to kill Shanto. Later after getting the news family members rescued him and admitted him to Alfadanga Upazila Health Complex.

It has also been mentioned in the complaint that there has been a long-standing dispute between Shanto’s family and Kamal Sheikh.

However Kamal Sheikh has denied the allegation. He said, “I am not involved with this incident. I have heard that there was a scuffle between my two sons and Shanto.”

He claimed that he does not know anything about taking money, passport or necessary documents from Shanto.

Sohail Sarwar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Alfadanga police station, has confirmed receiving the written complaint. He said the complaint will be investigated and legal action will be taken.
