Allegation of ‘betrayal’ against alliance candidate: Sarwar Tushar
Sarwar Tushar, Joint Convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has accused a Jamaat candidate of “betrayal,” alleging that he took a stance against the alliance in the Narsingdi-2 constituency.
In a Facebook post, Tushar presented vote counts received by the candidates contesting under the Sheaf of Paddy, Scales, and Water Lily bud symbols in Narsingdi-2.
He claimed that the Jamaat candidate’s failure to work in unity for the alliance had influenced the election outcome.
Tushar wrote, “Had the Jamaat candidate in Narsingdi-2 not betrayed the alliance, and had Jamaat’s grassroots worked wholeheartedly and in full unity in support of the alliance, the eleven-party alliance would have won by a margin of at least 10,000 to 15,000 votes.”
He further said, “When voters saw that the alliance was not effectively active in Palash, a section of our voters cast their votes for the Sheaf of Paddy. At the same time, the visible presence and attempts at influence by BNP leaders and activists at polling centers throughout the day, along with the inactivity of the eleven-party alliance, affected the electoral field.”
Referring to the alleged betrayal, Tushar added, “Bangladesh will remember the Jamaat candidate’s betrayal. In this election, I had to fight simultaneously against both the Sheaf of Paddy and the Scales. Had the Scales not been on the ballot, the result in this constituency would have surprised and stirred the nation.”
