Allegations of attack on Nasiruddin Patwary at Lalon's mazar premises
Allegations have emerged of an attack on National Citizen Party (NCP) chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary and vandalism of his car at the premises of Lalon Sain's mazar in Cheuria of Kumarkhali, Kushtia.
The incident took place around 7:15pm on Sunday, October 4. It created a tense situation in the mazar area for some time. Upon receiving news of the incident, Kumarkhali Police Station police quickly went to the scene and brought the situation under control. Later, around 8pm, Nasiruddin Patwary left the mazar premises with the help of police and local leaders and activists. Party sources said he then headed towards Kumarkhali Police Station to file a case over the attack and vandalism.
According to NCP sources, Nasiruddin Patwary went to Kushtia on a personal visit on Sunday. In the afternoon, he visited Rabindranath Tagore's Kuthibari in Shilaidaha of Kumarkhali. Later in the evening, he went to Lalon Akhrabari in Cheuria. After visiting the mazar there, he was listening to local artistes sing and was live-streaming on social media. The party claimed that the attack on him and the vandalism of his car took place at that time.
A source in NCP and several eyewitnesses claimed the attack and vandalism were carried out under the leadership of a person named Sangram, a member of Kushtia Municipal Chhatra Dal. However, Kushtia district Chhatra Dal convener Mozakkir Rabbi denied the allegation and said Chhatra Dal does not believe in the politics of mob or organised attacks. In his words, if any leader or activist is involved in the incident, the responsibility will fall on that individual.
Party sources said NCP Kushtia district branch convener Jannatul Ferdous Tonis and local leaders and activists were with Nasiruddin Patwary at the time of the incident. After the attack, he stayed at the mazar premises for some time.
Meanwhile, NCP joint member secretary Tarek Reza, in a post on social media, blamed BNP leaders and activists for the incident. However, no immediate statement could be obtained from BNP on the allegation.
A video of the incident has already spread on social media. In the video, several people can be seen chasing Nasiruddin Patwary and the leaders and activists with him, saying "catch, catch". However, the authenticity of the video and the identities of the people in it could not be independently verified.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kumarkhali Police Station Jamal Uddin said he heard that Nasiruddin Patwary came to Lalon's mazar and an incident took place with him. He said details would be known after going to the scene.
Meanwhile, local journalists tried to get Nasiruddin Patwary's statement, but he was unwilling to comment on the attack.
