Allowances for four categories of freedom fighters increased

The government has set new rates for honorary allowances and other financial benefits for titled freedom fighters, wounded freedom fighters and families of martyred freedom fighters. The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs issued a notification on July 15, effective from July 1, 2026.

According to the new decision, freedom fighters awarded the Bir Uttom title will receive Tk 30,000 per month, while Bir Bikrom and Bir Protik title holders will receive Tk 25,000. Wounded freedom fighters have been classified into four categories ('A', 'B', 'C' and 'D') based on the degree of disability.

Category A (96-100% disability)
Base allowance: Tk 30,000
Medical allowance: Tk 2,000
Food allowance: Tk 5,000
Total monthly: Tk 37,000
Additional support allowance (while alive): Tk 8,000
Total while alive: Tk 45,000 per month (heirs will not receive the additional support allowance after death)

Category B (61-95% disability):
Base allowance: Tk 28,000
Total with medical and food allowances: Tk 35,000 per month

Category C (20-60% disability):
Base allowance: Tk 23,000
Total with medical and food allowances: Tk 30,000 per month

Category D (1-19% disability):
Base allowance: Tk 20,000
Total with medical and food allowances: Tk 27,000 per month

Wounded freedom fighters will receive festival allowances equivalent to their base allowance twice a year. Living wounded freedom fighters will also receive Tk 5,000 on Victory Day and Tk 2,000 on Pahela Baishakh.
