Ambassadors of Russia and 3 Nordic countries pay courtesy call on Tarique Rahman
Russian Ambassador to Dhaka Alexander Grigoryevich Khozin paid a courtesy call on BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman. On the same day, ambassadors of three Nordic countries—Sweden, Denmark, and Norway—also met him separately.
These meetings were held at the BNP Chairman's political office in Gulshan in the capital on Tuesday.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, BNP Joint Secretary General and Chairman's Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee member Humayun Kabir said that the international community has a special interest in BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman. Foreign diplomats are also expressing interest in knowing his thoughts on the development and future of Bangladesh.
He said that ambassadors of four countries paid courtesy calls on Tarique Rahman on Tuesday. These discussions were held in a very cordial atmosphere. The meeting discussed how to work on the basis of mutual cooperation in the future by prioritizing the national interests of Bangladesh.
Humayun Kabir also said that the national election will be held on February 12. The diplomats were informed that if the BNP comes to power by the people's verdict, the state will be run in the light of the party's 31-point programme. At the same time, views were also exchanged on how to work in coordination with the international community in the future while maintaining diplomatic relations.
In response to a question regarding the elections, he said that no specific issue regarding the Bangladesh elections was discussed in the meeting. However, all the ambassadors expressed optimism about the elections and the democratic process and expressed their expectation that Bangladesh will move forward on a democratic path after the elections.
BNP Chairman's Press Secretary Saleh Shibli, Advisory Council Member Mahadi Amin and International Affairs Secretary Rashedul Haque were present.
