Former secretary Aminul Islam has been appointed as the Managing Director (MD) of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority on a contractual basis.

The appointment notification was issued by the Local Government Division under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives on Tuesday (March 10).

Under Section 49 of the Government Servants (Conduct) Rules, 2018, the appointment requires that he relinquish any other profession, business, or employment with government, semi-government, or private organizations. The tenure of Aminul Islam is set for one year, with other terms and conditions outlined in the contract.

Aminul Islam, a former student of the Law Department at University of Dhaka, ranked fifth among nearly 600 officers in the 1985 administration cadre batch. Despite his merit, he was previously denied promotion by the erstwhile government, but was subsequently promoted to secretary during the last caretaker government.

He was recognized nationally for his contribution to improving education standards during the BNP-led coalition government. In 2005, at a ceremony held at the Osmani Memorial Hall, he received an award from then Prime Minister Khaleda Zia for his exemplary service.
