Amir Hamza served legal notice asking disclosure of bribery offerors' name
A legal notice has been served to Kushtia-3 (Sadar) MP Amir Hamza, demanding disclosure of the identities of individuals who allegedly offered him Tk 50 crore in bribes.
The notice was sent on Wednesday (April 1) by lawyer Abdul Majid on behalf of Hridoy Hasan, a resident of Sonapur Nawapara in Kushtia Sadar and a member of the district Chhatra Dal convening committee.
It asks the MP to publicly reveal the names of the alleged bribery offerors or hand them over to law enforcement within seven days.
According to the notice, failure to do so would prompt further legal action.
The issue stems from remarks made by the MP on February 26 during an iftar event in Kushtia, where he claimed to have received offers exceeding Tk 50 crore within three days to influence decisions regarding Kushtia Medical College. He said he rejected the offers, adding that no amount of money could sway his position.
The statement later went viral on social media, prompting calls for disclosure of those allegedly involved.
The notice argues that under both state and religious laws, both bribe-givers and recipients are equally culpable, and withholding their identities amounts to shielding offenders.
Hridoy Hasan said the notice was issued in the interest of promoting accountability and combating corruption, adding that legal and public actions may follow if the demand is not met.
Local BNP leader Zakir Hossain Sarkar also urged the MP to disclose the names, calling the matter a criminal concern requiring transparency.
