Amir Hamza served legal notice over defamatory remarks against Fazlur Rahman
A legal notice has been served on Kushtia-3 lawmaker and Jamaat leader Amir Hamza over allegations of making defamatory and derogatory remarks against Kishoreganj-4 MP and freedom fighter Fazlur Rahman.
The notice, issued on behalf of National Student Power (Jatiya Chhatra Shakti) Kushtia district unit member secretary I-Yash Imon through lawyer Nurul Islam on Thursday (April 23), has asked Amir Hamza to respond within 10 days.
Failure to provide a satisfactory explanation within the stipulated time will lead to further legal action, the notice warned.
According to the legal notice, the allegations stem from a 26-second viral video circulating on social media, where Amir Hamza allegedly referred to Fazlur Rahman in offensive terms and made remarks suggesting sending him to a mental health facility, along with threatening language.
The notice states that such comments have damaged the honour, reputation, and social standing of the freedom fighter, causing mental and social distress.
Student leader I-Yash Imon said the action was taken to protect the dignity of a freedom fighter and to prevent the spread of defamatory statements.
This comes amid a series of separate legal notices and cases filed against Amir Hamza over controversial remarks in recent months.
