Ammar expelled from Shibir over various allegations including post-trading

Salauddin Ammar, general secretary of Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU), lost the ‘Sathi’ post of Islami Chhatra Shibir one year ago over allegations of moral degradation including ‘post-trading’.

Hafez Mehedi Hasan, general secretary of the Rajshahi University unit of Chhatra Shibir, said on Tuesday, “The incident is of 2025. He was expelled from the organisation over allegations of some irregularities.”

He said, “Ammar’s ‘Sathi’ post was suspended on February 2, 2025 and an opportunity was given for self-defence. However, as he could not do that, he was expelled from the organisation in September.”

Ammar was elected GS from the ‘Anti-Hegemony Unity’ panel that came up for discussion as Shibir’s ‘dummy panel’ in the RUCSU election. VP candidate of that panel Mehedi Sajib later emerged as the publicity and media secretary of the unit Shibir. This time the issue of the ‘dummy panel’ has again come up for discussion as Ammar’s name has come to the front as Shibir’s ‘Sathi’.

Earlier, although the matter of cancellation of Ammar’s ‘Sathi’ post was informed in a letter signed by Mujahid Faisal, president of Rajshahi University unit Shibir, on July 31, it has come to light recently.

‘Sathi’ is a stage in becoming a full member of Chhatra Shibir. After crossing this stage, there remains the opportunity to get membership and organisational posts.

The letter said, “A decision was taken in the monthly secretariat meeting in February 2025 to suspend Ammar’s ‘Sathi’ post over allegations of moral degradation, indifference in performing basic ibadat, free mixing with girls, illegal financial transactions and misappropriation of assets, and involvement in activities contrary to the aims and objectives of the organisation.”

The letter further said, “Later, a decision was taken in the monthly secretariat meeting of September to cancel Ammar’s ‘Sathi’ post as he failed to give a proper reply to the raised allegations.”

The letter also mentioned, “An unstable situation is being created on the campus due to Ammar’s activities and involvement in criminal offences in some cases. His regular provocative activities may push the campus towards conflict.”

In this situation, the leaders and activists of the organisation were directed to refrain from showing any positive or negative comments or reactions to Ammar’s online and offline activities. Alongside, it was said to maintain only official communication of Ammar with the elected office-bearers of RUCSU.

Earlier, in a letter signed by Mostakur Rahman Zahid, the then president of Rajshahi University unit of Shibir and currently vice-president (VP) of RUCSU, on February 4, 2025, the allegation of ‘post-trading’ against Ammar in exchange for money in the Rajshahi metropolis and district committee of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement was mentioned.

That letter said that the matter came to the notice of Chhatra Shibir through reports published in various media of the country. Besides, several allegations of moral degradation against Ammar also came to the organisation from various individuals and platforms.

Discussions were held on the allegations in the monthly secretariat meeting of Chhatra Shibir. The letter mentioned that a decision was taken unanimously in the meeting to take the allegations into cognisance and suspend Ammar’s ‘Sathi’ post on the charge of violating organisational discipline.

Although phone calls were made and text messages sent multiple times to Salauddin Ammar’s mobile to know about this matter, no response was received.
