Another accused arrested in Dipu Das murder case

Detective Branch of district police has arrested another accused, Bablu Mia, 24, in connection with the murder of garment worker Dipu Chandra Das, 27, in Bhaluka, Mymensingh. He was arrested around 11 pm on Sunday, February 22.

The arrested Bablu is the son of Saiful Islam from Dubaliapara area in Bhaluka upazila.

Police said immediately after the incident, work began to identify those involved through CCTV footage analysis and information technology assistance. Subsequently, Bablu Mia was detained from Dubaliapara area.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that Bablu played a key role in gathering people at the factory gate by being present at the scene. He incited the crowd by chanting slogans. Police allege that he later actively participated in beating Dipu Chandra Das in front of the gate and bringing the body to the highway to subject it to torture by the agitated crowd.

On the night of December 18, an agitated mob lynched Dipu after raising allegations of religious blasphemy at Pioneer Knitwears BD Limited factory in Jamirdia area of Bhaluka. Later, his body was taken to the side of the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway and set on fire. Upon receiving information, police recovered the half-burnt body around 2:30 am.

Mymensingh Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) Abdullah Al Mamun said a key accused in the Dipu Chandra Das murder has been arrested. He will be produced before court on Monday.

He informed that a total of 23 people have been arrested so far in connection with this incident. Among them, 11 have given confessional statements in court. Operations are ongoing to arrest other fugitive accused in the case.
