A local activist of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) was shot dead in Raozan late Sunday (April 26), marking the second such killing in the area within 24 hours.

The victim, Md. Nasir, 45, was attacked around 9:30pm in South Shamsherpara area of Kadolpur Union. He was known to be active in BNP politics at the local level.

According to local sources, suspected members of a group referred to as the “Alam Group” opened fire on Nasir, reportedly over political rivalry. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the attack.

Witnesses said he was critically injured and first taken to Raozan Upazila Health Complex. As his condition deteriorated, he was being transferred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where he died on the way.

Police said operations are underway to bring the situation under control, though the area’s terrain has made efforts more challenging. The officer-in-charge of Raozan Police Station also confirmed that the victim had several cases filed against him.

The incident follows the killing of another BNP activist, Md. Kawsar Babul, who was shot dead Saturday morning in the same upazila over a dispute related to soil excavation, intensifying concerns over escalating political violence in the region.
