Another student succumbed to injuries; death toll rises to 34

Another student has died from burn injuries sustained in the tragic fighter jet crash at Milestone School and College in the capital's Uttara, raising the official death toll to 34.

The latest victim, Sahil Farabi Ayan, 14, a seventh-grade student of the school’s English version, passed away at 1:45am on Monday (July 28) while receiving treatment at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.

Dr Shaon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon at the institute, confirmed the death, stating that Sahil had sustained 40 percent burns and was on life support in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). “Despite our best efforts, he could not be saved,” he said.

So far, 18 people have died at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute, while one victim succumbed to injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital's burn unit.

The fatal incident took place on July 21 around 1:15pm when a Bangladesh Air Force fighter jet crashed into a building on the school campus in Diabari, Uttara. Most of the victims are students and children. Many others remain hospitalized with critical injuries.
