A tanker carrying 27,000 metric tonnes of diesel from Singapore has arrived at Chattogram Port.

According to the port sources, the tanker, 'Lian Huan Hu', entered the port’s outer anchorage on Tuesday afternoon (March 10), with fuel unloading beginning around 7:30pm the same day.

Earlier, another tanker named 'Xiu Chi' arrived at the port on Monday carrying 27,204 metric tonnes of diesel.

The state-run Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) said three more diesel-laden tankers are scheduled to arrive within the next five days. Among them, 'SPT Themis', carrying 30,484 metric tonnes of diesel, is expected to dock on March 12.

Two additional vessels — 'Raffles Samurai' and 'Chang Hang Hong Tu' — are scheduled to arrive on March 13 and March 15 respectively, each carrying about 30,000 metric tonnes of diesel.

Together, the five shipments are expected to add around 144,205 metric tonnes of refined diesel imported from various Asian countries to Bangladesh’s fuel reserves.

According to BPC estimates, the diesel from these five tankers could meet the country’s current demand for at least 12 days.

However, amid volatility in global markets, the government has reduced daily diesel supply to about 9,000 metric tonnes since Sunday as a precautionary measure.

If the conservation policy continues, the new imports could meet demand for about 16 days, while existing reserves are sufficient for another 16–17 days.

Masud Parvez, an official from BPC’s commercial and operations division, said fuel unloading operations are being carried out swiftly despite the regional conflict, adding that timely arrivals of the remaining vessels would help stabilise the supply situation.

BPC officials also said consistent imports are expected to ease fears of artificial shortages in the market, as authorities work closely with port operators to ensure uninterrupted fuel distribution.
